We want Arbiter HR to deliver real value for the people who pay for it. This Refund Policy explains what to expect if it doesn't.

Arbiter HR workbooks are refundable within 30 days of purchase, at our discretion, through Gumroad's standard refund mechanism. The Full Version below covers the details.

1. Refund Window — 30 Days from Purchase

Arbiter HR workbooks are sold as one-time digital purchases through Gumroad. When you buy a workbook, you're entering into a transaction governed both by this Refund Policy and by Gumroad's own Terms of Service and refund mechanics, which you accepted when you completed the purchase.

You may request a refund within 30 days of your purchase date by emailing hello@arbiterhr.com with your order number and the reason for the request. Refunds are processed through Gumroad and typically appear on your original payment method within 5-10 business days.

Because workbooks are digital files that customers download to their own systems, we cannot recover or restrict the file after refund. Refund requests on downloaded workbooks are at our discretion and may consider the timing of the request, the customer's prior order history, and any evidence the workbook content has been used in active HR or payroll work.

In evaluating abuse patterns, we may consider factors including download timing, the customer's prior purchase history, and patterns of refunds across multiple email addresses or payment methods that suggest coordinated abuse.

4. Monthly Update Emails After Refund

If you receive a refund on a workbook, you will be unsubscribed from that workbook's monthly update email list. You can re-subscribe by purchasing the workbook again at the then-current price.

If you have purchased multiple workbooks and request a refund on one, you remain subscribed to monthly updates for the workbooks you keep.

5. Customer Geographic Eligibility

Arbiter HR products are offered to US customers only. If you purchased from outside the United States, we will refund your purchase automatically — you do not need to request the refund. We apply this policy uniformly and do not currently serve customers outside the United States.

6. Bundle and Catalog Refunds

If you purchased a bundle (Payroll Admin, HR Generalist) or the Complete Catalog, refunds may be requested for the full bundle within the 30-day window. We do not currently process partial bundle refunds (refunding individual workbooks within a bundle while keeping others). If you want to request a partial bundle refund based on extenuating circumstances, email hello@arbiterhr.com and we'll engage thoughtfully.

7. Chargebacks

If you believe you are entitled to a refund and we have declined, please discuss with us directly at hello@arbiterhr.com before filing a chargeback with your credit card company. We respond to refund correspondence quickly and try to find reasonable outcomes.

Chargebacks initiated without first contacting us, particularly for charges within the refund-eligible window, are treated as a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in immediate termination of the update relationship and refusal of future purchases. We reserve the right to recover from you any dispute fees, processing fees, or costs assessed against us by Gumroad or any card network as a result of a chargeback that is ultimately resolved in our favor.

8. Workbook Defects and Material Errors

If you identify a material error in a workbook — a citation that's incorrect, a rule that's stated wrong, or a missing state — email hello@arbiterhr.com. We correct material errors in the next monthly edition and may issue an early correction notice to active subscribers ahead of the regular monthly cycle if the error is significant.

Material errors do not automatically entitle you to a refund. The refund window mechanics described above apply. However, if a material error meaningfully affected the workbook's usefulness to you and you contact us promptly, we will consider an out-of-window refund as part of our service issue evaluation under Section 9.

9. Service Issues

If you experience a sustained delivery problem, a workbook file that won't open, or other technical service issue, contact hello@arbiterhr.com. We evaluate service-related issues separately from the standard refund window. Significant service failures may result in refunds outside the 30-day window or service credits applied to future purchases.

Service-related accommodations are not refunds in the legal sense, are not redeemable for cash, and are evaluated at our discretion.

10. Exceptions and Special Circumstances

This Refund Policy is the default. We retain discretion to make exceptions in unusual circumstances — for example, if a billing error caused unexpected charges, if a workbook had a material content error we corrected after your purchase, or if there are extenuating personal circumstances. Reach out at hello@arbiterhr.com and we will engage thoughtfully.

Any exception we grant is specific to the situation and does not establish a precedent or modify this policy for other customers or for your own future situations.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. Changes will apply prospectively to purchases made after the change effective date. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.

Changes to this policy do not apply retroactively to refund requests already submitted.
